WCAG 2.1 AA Target
Accessibility Statement
Last updated: May 27, 2026
BuiltByM is committed to making this site usable by everyone, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, voice control, screen magnification, or who have visual, motor, cognitive, or hearing impairments.
Our standard
We target conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at the AA level, the standard referenced by the U.S. Department of Justice for ADA Title III website accessibility.
What's currently implemented
- Semantic HTML — proper landmark elements (nav, main, footer), heading hierarchy, and form labels associated with their inputs.
- Keyboard navigation — every interactive element (links, buttons, form fields, FAQ accordions) is reachable and operable with the keyboard. A visible orange focus ring marks the currently focused element.
- Skip link — a "Skip to content" link appears at the top of every page when you tab into it, letting keyboard users bypass the navigation.
- Color contrast — body text and interactive elements meet the 4.5:1 contrast ratio against their background (AA threshold).
- Reduced motion — if you have "Reduce motion" enabled in your operating system, all transitions, marquee scrolls, and hover animations are disabled.
- Alt text — meaningful images include descriptive alt attributes; purely decorative images are marked
aria-hidden="true" so screen readers skip them.
- ARIA labels — icon-only buttons (close, menu toggle, slider thumbs) carry
aria-label attributes that describe their action.
- Form inputs — every form field has a visible label and an
inputmode attribute so the right mobile keyboard appears.
- Captcha alternative — hCaptcha (the spam check on our contact form) provides an audio challenge as an alternative to its visual puzzle.
- Responsive design — the site works at any zoom level up to 200% without horizontal scrolling, and adapts cleanly to small screens.
Known issues
We're a small business and we're honest about gaps. We're actively working on these:
- The animated phone mockup previews ("See 5 sites instantly") rely on hover to reveal scrolling content. Keyboard users currently see the static preview only. We're planning a keyboard-triggered version.
- Some decorative animations (the intro logo build-in) cannot be fully paused mid-animation, only disabled at page load via the reduced-motion preference.
How to report an issue
If you encounter any accessibility barrier on this site, please tell us so we can fix it. We aim to respond within 2 business days.
Please include the page URL, a description of the issue, and the assistive technology you're using (e.g., NVDA on Windows, VoiceOver on macOS, keyboard only). If you can attach a screenshot or recording, that helps us reproduce it faster.
Legal context
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title III applies to websites of businesses serving the public. The U.S. Department of Justice has confirmed that WCAG 2.1 AA is the de facto standard for compliance. Many state laws (including the District of Columbia's Human Rights Act) reinforce these requirements. We treat this as a baseline, not a ceiling.
Third-party tools
Two third-party services run on our contact form:
- Web3Forms — handles form delivery. Their site conforms to WCAG 2.1 AA. Their statement.
- hCaptcha — spam protection. Provides keyboard, screen-reader, and audio alternatives. Their statement.
Browser compatibility
The site is tested and works in the latest two versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. Older browsers may render correctly but with some visual differences; core content and functionality remain accessible.
